Multi-Instrumentalist, singer-songwriter.
My name is Louis Van Camp. I am a songwriter, recording artist, and sound designer. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, but currently reside in Chicago, Illinois where I am attending Northwestern University as a student in the Masters in Sound Arts and Industry program.
I grew up listening to music from the 1960s and 1970s and have an affinity for that era’s production and musicianship. For years, I enjoyed playing that kind of music in bands—usually cover bands—but eventually discovered a real love for songwriting. Shortly afterwards, I pivoted away from playing live shows to focus on composing and recording.
After producing a few solo albums, I started composing music for video games and theater productions. Eventually, I began expanding my compositional palette by working with traditional orchestral style arrangements and working on film scores.
The film and video game scoring inspired me to learn more about sound design in general, paving the way for an interest in non-musical audio work. This led me to designing sound for theater productions here at Northwestern and learning how to create soundscapes, sound effects, and cues for live theater.
Currently, I’m very keen on continuing to develop my skills as a composer and a sound designer, and so I am eager to collaborate with new musicians, film makers, and game designers! Please reach out here if you are interested in working together and need music or sound for your project.
